Heart Friendship Keychain

I love making these amigurumi hearts! They are the perfect size to keep as pocket hugs, or you can add hardware to turn them into keychains. I wanted to make some hearts for my child's classmates for their Valentine's Day party. They are so simple to make, that I decided to write down my pattern and share it with all of you! You can follow along with the written pattern (below) or watch a minute-long tutorial on YouTube Shorts.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn of choice (weight and fiber type will determine size)
  • Crochet hook suitable for your yarn
  • Stuffing (polyfil or preferred fiberfill)
  • Yarn needle
  • Keychain hardware (split ring, small piece of chain, swivel hook)
  • Long/needle-nose pliers

Abbreviations (US Terminology):

  • MC – Magic Circle
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • INC – Increase
  • DEC – Decrease

Heart Lobes (Make 2):

  1. 6 SC into MC. [6]
  2. INC x 6. [12]
  3. SC in each stitch around. [12]
  4. Fasten off the first piece. Leave the second piece unfinished.

Joining the Heart:

  1. Holding both lobes together, join with SC into the next stitch on the second lobe. SC in the next 11 stitches. [12]
  2. Continue SC around the first lobe, SC in the next 12 stitches. [24]

Note: If there are larger gaps at the join, use DEC stitches to help close the space and create a smoother shape.

Shaping the Heart:

  1. SC in each stitch around. [24]
  2. (SC, DEC) x 8. [16]
  3. SC in each stitch around. [16]
  4. Add stuffing.
  5. DEC x 8. [8]
  6. SC in each stitch around. [8]
  7. Add more stuffing if needed.
  8. DEC x 4. [4]
  9. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing:

Attach keychain hardware using pliers, a split ring, and a small piece of chain with a swivel hook.
